Wartime, Our Times: Community Listening Event
Date: Wednesday, May 21, 2008
Time: Starts 2:30:00 PM
Duration 1 hrs 30mins
As the U. S. marks more than five years of war in Iraq, journalism students at San Francisco’s Phillip & Sala Burton High School have been interviewing veterans, conscientious objectors, and members of their own families about their experiences of war. This project is a collaboration between Burton High, KALW, and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes at UC Berkeley and SF State. KALW reporter and producer Emily Wilson has worked closely with Burton student journalists, teaching them about good interview questions, microphone technique, and the art of editing tape. And students from the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute have come into the Burton classroom to tell their stories, and talk with Burton students about how their wartime experiences have shaped their lives. The documentary will be broadcast on 91.7 KALW on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26th at 7 p.m. -- join this special preview listening event to hear from the people of all ages who've been part of the project.
